Voyce McGinley III Hybrid Percussion Clinic
Friday, July 17 – 7:00PM FREE!!
Drummer/percussionist/educator Voyce McGinley III will be giving a FREE in-store workshop on innovative Hybrid Percussion setups. Hybrid setups allow drummers to add percussion elements to their rigs and allow percussionists to add traditional drumset voices to theirs. Voyce will cover all sorts of possibilities including African (djembe-based) hybrids, Brazilian (surdo-based), Cuban (conga-based), Turkish (doumbek/darbouka-based) and World-Fusion (anything goes). He’ll discuss and demonstrate simple ways of adding shakers, maracas, tambourines and cowbells to drum setups, show various rigs that work well for “Unplugged” acoustic sets and more.
Voyce McGinley II is a Los Angeles-based studio and touring percussionist who has performed with several Golden Globe and Grammy-Award winning artists including Airo Moreira and Flora Purim, Cirque du Soleil, Daniel Ho, Deniece Williams, Donovan, Eric Burdon, Kitaro, Mickey Hart, Pancho Sanchez, Stevie Wonder, Victor Wooten and the Walt Disney Company.
Voyce has performed all over the world – Canada, China, England, Germany, Greece, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Portugal, Singapore, Taiwan and the United States. Career highlights include performances at the Taj Mahal, the Bangkok Jazz Festival and the Hollywood Bowl He co-hosted the 2012 and 2013 Rose Parades with fellow Remo artist Christine Stevens and helped lead 11,000 drummers for the 2012 “Rock the Rhythm, Beat the Odds” entry into the Guiness Book of Records. He has written two drum instruction books for Mel Bay Publishing, “Superchops for the Drum Kit” and “Mallet Mayhem.”
Voyce is currently in the recording studio with the legendary Matt Forger (Michael Jackson/Quincy Jones/Steven Spielberg) the engineer behind Michael Jackson’s Thriller, Bad and HIStory.

Multi-Instrumentalist Stan Johnson Appearing Live In-Store
Second Friday Art About – Friday, July 10 – 6:00-8:00PM
Stan has performed all over the mid-west & western United States, Germany, Japan, and England. In 2000, he was inducted into the Nebraska Music Hall of Fame. In 2001, his group was asked to return to perform as the guest artist for the Hall of Fame presentation. He was a jazz guest artist at Oakhurst High School and the University High School in Fresno in 2002 & 2004; this April he will be the guest artist at Magnolia Middle School in Auburn.
He has performed with The Temptations, The Four tops, Norton Buffalo, saxophonist Pet Chistilleb, Mary Fettig & Sonia Jason, trombonist Dave Eshelman, trumpeters Mike Vax, & Marvin McFadden, percussionist Pete Escovedo, the groups – High Class Brass and the Dean-O-holics from Sacramento, Sierra Brass & Electric from Nevada City, Slick & the Sliders from Winters, Gray Daze from Fairfield.
He is currently performing with the new rock band BRP (Black Rock Project) from Fairfield and Rocky and the Revellettes from Sacramento. He also performs with his own jazz the John Stanson Band and rock group J. Harrison B.
Rolling Stone Magazine gave a glowing review of Stan’s [performance with Magellan on a Jethro Tull tribute CD “To Cry You a Song”, produced by Magna Carta Records. He can also be heard on Blue Sky’s 707 CD, with his two sons on their CD “Johnson, Johnson & Johnson” and the album by J. Harrison B. titled “You Can’t Get There from Here”.
