Join Watermelon Music Instructors Jon Spivack and Mike Bender for a Free Ukulele Circle sponsored by Kala Ukuleles, Alfred Publishing and NAMM. The circle will run from 1:00PM until 2:00PM at Watermelon Music, 207 E Street in Davis.
This event will be open to anyone, but will be specifically designed for people with little or no experience playing the ukulele. Mike and Jon will teach everyone a few basic chords and then get to playing. If you own a ukulele, bring it with you. If you don’t, we’ll have plenty for everyone to use. More advanced players are welcome to attend and participate as well, and are encouraged to share their love of music and the ukulele by supporting the beginning players.
Attendees will receive a free copy of Alfred Publishing’s best selling “It’s Ukulele Time” beginning instruction book.
We’ll do our best to fit everyone who wants to attend and participate, but would encourage you to call, email or stop by to let us know you’re planning on attending so we can prepare enough chairs and materials.
Make Music is a free celebration of music around the world on June 21st. Launched in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique, it is now held on the same day in more than 700 cities in 120 countries.
Completely different from a typical music festival, Make Music is open to anyone who wants to take part. Every kind of musician — young and old, amateur and professional, of every musical persuasion — pours onto streets, parks, plazas, and porches to share their music with friends, neighbors, and strangers. All of it is free and open to the public. This is Watermelon Music’s first time to be involved and hope you’ll help us make it a success.

April 1 marked the 20-Year Anniversary of our store, and we celebrated the whole month long in style! Watermelon Music would like to thank everyone who participated, both those who performed and those who listened.
Special thanks to Celia Cottle and her Jazzamatazz and Jazz Cats ensembles, and Michael O’Hearn and the New Harmony Jazz Ensemble for performing on Duke Ellington’s Birthday. Hearing live big band jazz was a huge treat for everyone.
Special thanks to The Tom Peron Quintet for an absolutely AMAZING night of jazz.
Special thanks to members of the Young Musician’s Outreach club for performing beautiful classical music in our store on Picnic Day.
Special thanks to teachers Davis, Moore, Rayls, Inouye, Bowers, Watson and Foerster who brought their classrooms of kindergarten-third grade students in for our first-ever “Musical Instrument Petting Zoo” fieldtrips. We had such a fun time with you and your students we’re looking at making the petting zoo an annual event.
Special thanks to judges Al Lisi, Greg Johnson and Catherine LeBlanc and all of the participants in our “Singer-Songwriter Shootout.” Congratulations to winner Noah Byrd who took home the Grand Prize Fishman Loudbox Performer Acoustic Amplifier. The level of talent and sincerity at this event was exceptional.
Special thanks to the longtime vendors and manufacturers who went out of their way to provide special items we could give away as part of our celebration. You were all extremely generous and accomodating. We appreciate what you do for us and look forward to another 20 years of business with you.

Bicycle Riding Musicians, now is your chance…
“May is National Bike Month, sponsored by the League of American Bicyclists and celebrated in communities from coast to coast. Established in 1956, National Bike Month is a chance to showcase the many benefits of bicycling – and encourage more folks to giving biking a try.”
If you need a reason (other than exercise or the lack of downtown parking) to ride your bicycle this month, here you go – Mention this promotion and Watermelon Music will take 10% off of any purchase of new merchandise that you transport home on your bicycle. Put it in your backpack; stow it in your saddlebags; bungee it to your bike rack; just don’t put it in the trunk of your car.
