The Millingtons and friends to perform at Watermelon Music Saturday November 24th to raise funds for the Jean Millington Stroke Recovery Fund

The Institute for the Musical Arts and Watermelon Music are teaming up to produce a benefit in support of GO JEAN, the stroke recovery fund for bassist Jean Millington. The Millington family immigrated to the Sacramento area in the early 1960’s from the Philippines and the sisters were part of the burgeoning rock music scene of the day. Jean Millington, along with her sister June, was a founding member of the pioneering all-woman rock band Fanny. Last January, just before the release of their newest album as Fanny Walked the Earth with former band mate Brie Howard Darling (Blue Elan Records, Walk the Earth), Jean suffered a stroke compromising her right side. Her big sister June immediately leapt into action doing benefit concerts and establishing GO JEAN an on-line fundraiser with a goal of $50,000. The fund is just $5,000 short of its goal.

The event will be a true family affair: aside from lead guitarist June Millington and drummer Brie Darling, the Millington strings a classically-based
quartet led by brother Steve Millington and his wife Anne will also play. June and Brie will be joined by Jean’s son Lee John who will be covering some of his mom’s bass parts along with his SayReal bandmate Naia Kete. Jean Millington-Adamian will be at the event to receive the loving vibes and might just sing a song or two.

The event, which will be held at Watermelon Music in Davis, CA, is from 5PM-8PM. Tickets are $20; all procceeds are donated to the GO JEAN fund. Additional donations can be made at the event. Open to the public, the event is also being filmed for a documentary on Fanny due to be released in 2020.
