Comedy Night: Larry “Bubbles” Brown – Friday, November 1 @ 8pm
On April 12, 2019 By admin

Watermelon Music Presents:

Comedy Night

Headliner: Larry “Bubbles” Brown

Larry Bubbles Brown is a San Francisco based comedian. In the first grade he was watching clouds go by at recess and realized we were all going to die. This made him so depressed he just laid under the swings until the teachers came out and brought him back to class. He was sent home with a note.

Growing up in Ohio, he moved to California in his early 20’s, seeking high rents and traffic. After a series of Kafkaesque payroll jobs for the Federal government, he tried stand up at the Holy City Zoo in SF in l98l. In a few months he was making some money then rode the comedy boom of the 80’s. That crashed in the 90’s because as he points out – “Anything in life you like will be taken away from you.”

Though the boom popped, Brown stayed at it because you can’t beat working half an hour a night. He spent two years working as a traffic reporter on Live l05 morning show with Alex Bennett. Best job, worst hours. He has appeared on over 25 tv shows, including David Letterman and will be making another appearance this year. He was also in the movie “The Kiterunner.” He appears in clubs mainly in California and Las Vegas because flying terrifies him even though he was a certified glider pilot before stand up.

He has been a frequent opening act for Dana Carvey and Dave Attell.

Hoping to someday start a vegetarian minimalist pessimist movement, his philosophy of life is “Expect the worst and you will never be disappointed.”

Szlachetka & Jamie Kent – Thursday, October 17 @ 7:30pm
On April 12, 2019 By admin

Watermelon Music Presents:

Szlachetka & Jamie Kent

Szlachetka:

Years before he teamed up with Grammy-winning producer David Bianco (Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Lucinda Williams) for the Heart of My Hometown sessions, Szlachetka was the frontman of acclaimed LA-based roots-rock band the Northstar Session. With the band, he recorded five albums and appeared in NBC’s TV series Parenthood. He began his solo career in 2014 releasing Waits for a Storm to Find.

Three years later, Heart of My Hometown shines new light on Szlachetka as a singer, prolific songwriter, storyteller, and fiery lead guitarist. It’s an album whose touchstones include the charged roots-rock of Tom Petty and the warm, acoustic sounds of Jackson Browne. Szlachetka moves between both ends of that spectrum with ease, splitting his time between full-band anthems — including the riff-heavy “Until That Echo,” co-written with Train’s Scott Underwood — and more intimate, acoustic moments like “Wildflowers on the Highway,” featuring an appearance by duet partner Katelyn Clampett. The album’s title track rests somewhere in the middle, layering pop hooks and three-part harmonies into a nostalgic song about remembering one’s roots. It’s an album built for road trips, slow dances, wild Friday nights, and everything in between.

Rolling Stone hailed Szlachetka as one of the 10 New Artists You Need to Know, describing his forthcoming album as “a soundtrack for both the highway and the heartland…a collection of road-dog roots-rockers and Americana ballads inspired by the people (and places) he’s left behind in the rearview mirror.”

Now based in Nashville, Szlachetka continues to tour nationally with a schedule that’s seen him open for Brandy Clark, the Byrds’ Chris Hillman, the Heartbreakers’ Mike Campbell, Brandi Carlile and more.

Jamie Kent:

Named by RollingStone.com as an “Artist You Need To Know”, and dubbed a “Must Watch Artist” by The Huffington Post, one might say the future of Jamie Kent looks quite promising. Drawing on influences from modern americana artists like Jason Isbell and Will Hoge, as well as paying tribute to classic greats like John Prine and Tom Petty, Kent is a “an important young voice with something to say” (Music City Roots). Kent has had no fear of hard work, playing 150+ shows a year including tours with Huey Lewis & The News, The Doobie Bros, America, Brothers Osborne, Brandy Clark, and Marc Broussard. His songs have been heard across major network television, from VH1 to NBC’s The Today Show and World Of Dance. His latest album “All American Mutt”,  debuted at #16 on the Billboard Top Country Albums Chart and #3 on the Heatseeker Charts. Kent was the only independent artist to break into the Top 20 at the time.

Watermelon Music Presents:

Comedy Night

Headliner: Will Durst

Every first Friday of the month Watermelon Music host a stand up Comedy Night at The Melon Ball! This October we welcome nationally acclaimed political comedian Will Durst.

The New York Times has called Will Durst, “quite possibly the best political comedian working in the country today.” He writes a nationally syndicated humor column and is a frequent contributor on CNN, MSNBC & Fox News, has performed for 3 presidents, a Mayor’s Convention and a Governors Conference. In 2016, “Elect to Laugh” ran for 41 weeks in San Francisco and his new one- man show “Durst Case Scenario,” is currently touring theaters across the country and beyond. He is also one of the titular characters in the documentary “3 Still Standing” which can be seen on Amazon Prime. His 800+ television appearances include: HBO, The Today Show, Letterman, Inside Politics, GMA, Jon Stewart Show, Showtime, Comedy Central, CBS Morning News and many more. Durst has told jokes in 16 countries, is author of 4 books, 5 CDs and has been fired by the San Francisco Examiner twice, PBS three times and he once ran for Mayor of San Francisco, spending $1200, pulling 2% of the vote, meaning on a dollar per vote basis, he is mayor of San Francisco. His heroes remain the same as when he was 12… Thomas Jefferson and Bugs Bunny. And despite blistering reproach he continues to thwart convention by squeezing ketchup onto his bratwurst.
