The classic children's book The Animals Noah Forgot, first published in 1931, was a collaboration between two eminent Australians, the journalist and poet A.B. Paterson, more often known as "Banjo Paterson" and the novelist and prolific artist Norman Lindsay. Lindsay had already produced The Magic Pudding using his own text and inimitable drawings. The Animals Noah Forgot, in a similar vein, combines irreverent verses and amusing illustrations.
Many Australian animals are so different from animals elsewhere that it is easy to imagine, as the book's forward suggests, that they refused to go with Noah on the ark during the great flood. The settings are deliberately uncomplicated, intended for young singers and pianists of limited virtuosity. The may be performed as solos or by choirs. The six songs may be sung in isolation or in any combination.
